WHAT IS PURG-ODAN®?
Purg-Odan® is an oral purgative indicated for the clearance of the bowel prior to colonoscopy, x-ray examination, or surgery.
Purg-Odan® contains sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide, and citric acid.
The osmotic and stimulant laxatives in Purg-Odan® draw water into the colon and increase the bowel movements to transport the contents along.

Purg-Odan® is presented as a white granulate powder which is dissolved in cold water and then drunk.

HOW DO I TAKE PURG-ODAN®?
Usually two doses are taken 6 to 8 hours apart on the day prior to the hospital procedure.
(dosage may vary according to physician protocol).
To prepare a sachet, mix and dissolve the contents of a sachet in a mug or cup with cold water (approximately 150 ml or 5oz.). Stir frequently for 2-3 minutes, then drink.
Take with clear fluids
In order to replace lost fluids, it is important to drink plenty of clear fluids throughout the treatment with Purg-Odan® until the bowel moments have ceased.
WHO CAN USE PURG-ODAN®?
Most adults can take Purg-Odan®. Advise your doctor of any medical conditions you may have before taking Purg-Odan®.
Purg-Odan® is safe for children 1 year and older. Please see your doctor’s recommendations on how a child should take Purg-Odan®.
Purg-Odan® Solo is available in a single sachet per box format for children.
Purg-Odan® is available without a prescription
Do not take Purg-Odan if your healthcare provider has advised you of the following:
- You recently had gastric or intestinal surgery
- You have an Inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease
- You have kidney or heart problems
- You are using bulk forming laxatives e.g. bran
- You are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breast feeding
- You are taking or have been taking other medications
